Launched in spring 2015 under creative director Frida Giannini, Gucci Bamboo is a deliberate act of heritage storytelling. Its name and DNA trace directly to Gucci's iconic bamboo-handled handbag, first introduced in 1947 when the house improvised bamboo as a handle material during postwar material shortages — an act of necessity that became a signature of the brand. Perfumer Daniela Andrier, renowned for her work with Prada (Infusion d'Iris, Infusion de Rose) and trained at the Sorbonne before entering perfumery, was chosen to translate the bamboo's duality — supple yet strong, graceful yet unyielding — into scent. She built a quietly elegant floral-woody structure: a bright bergamot opening leads to a creamy white floral heart of Casablanca lily and ylang-ylang, before settling into Tahitian vanilla, amber, and sandalwood. The result was a fragrance consciously positioned as a polished, versatile choice rather than a statement piece — and it earned a reputation exactly as intended: sophisticated, approachable, and reliably well-crafted. Within the fragrance community it is consistently praised for wearability and longevity, with the ylang-ylang occasionally drawing more polarizing responses from those who find it heavy.
A quietly elegant floral-woody EDP that opens with sparkling bergamot, blooms through exotic lily and ylang-ylang, and dries down to creamy Tahitian vanilla and sandalwood.
