Bright Crystal arrived in 2006 as Donatella Versace's vision of the luminous, approachable Versace woman — a departure from the house's more bombastic orientals toward something lighter, younger, and universally wearable. Legendary perfumer Alberto Morillas, whose resume includes Acqua di Giò and Marc Jacobs Daisy, constructed a deceptively simple and very effective floral-fruity formula: an icy yuzu and pomegranate opening — with a literal 'frosted accord' to amplify that crystalline, cool effect — blooms into a soft peony, magnolia, and lotus heart before settling on an understated base of mahogany wood, vegetal amber, and musk. The bottle itself, a faceted pink crystal flacon with a Medusa-embossed cap, became an object of desire in its own right, embodying Donatella's stated intent to capture her favorite floral bouquet in glass. Bright Crystal quickly became Versace's best-selling women's fragrance and has remained in the top tier of the category for nearly two decades — a testament both to Morillas's nose and to the fragrance's uncanny inoffensiveness. It is almost universally described as a 'safe gift' and an ideal office scent, which is either its greatest strength or, depending on one's tastes, its primary limitation.
A light, luminous floral-fruity EDT with icy yuzu and pomegranate opening into peony and magnolia — clean, approachable, and perennially popular.
