Is perfume cheaper on Black Friday? A year-by-year answer
By Siddharth Kumar · Updated September 2026
Perfume is cheaper on Black Friday, but the discount depends on where you shop and which brand you want. Department stores and beauty chains run 20 to 50 percent off selected fragrances, discounters like FragranceNet stack an extra 35 to 40 percent with a code, and Amazon has cut up to 40 percent on brands like Phlur, Armani and Mugler. Prestige houses such as Chanel, Dior, Creed and Le Labo rarely discount at their own counters; savings on those come through department stores, gift-set value or loyalty points. If you want a specific bottle, the smart move is to know which retailer discounts that brand and to buy the concentration you actually want, not the one that happens to be marked down.

Every November the same question fills search boxes: is perfume actually cheaper on Black Friday, or is it the same bottle in a red banner? The honest answer is that it depends on three things. Where you buy, because a beauty chain and a discounter behave very differently. Which brand, because a handful of prestige houses hold their price no matter what. And what you count as a deal, because a gift set with a lotion you did not want is not a discount on the perfume. This page lays out what the major US retailers actually did from 2020 through 2025, based on their published sale terms and the coverage at the time, so you can walk into Black Friday 2026 knowing what a normal discount looks like and where your bottle is most likely to drop.
| Retailer | 2024 pattern | 2025 pattern | What to expect in 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sephora | Buy one, get one half off on selected fragrance | Up to 50 percent off selected fragrance, extra loyalty points with a code, Nov 24 to Dec 1 | A tiered loyalty discount plus a deep cut on a rotating selection; the best bottles sell out early |
| Ulta | Around 40 percent off selected designer houses | 40 percent off Ralph Lauren, Viktor and Rolf, Marc Jacobs, Burberry and Gucci; 30 percent off Snif and Billie Eilish; half off sampler sets | Designer-heavy discounts on a named list, strong on sets, weak on prestige niche |
| Macy’s | Up to 50 percent off selected fragrances | Up to 50 percent off selected fragrances with an extra percentage at checkout on some days | The department store most likely to discount Dior, Chanel and Armani bottles |
| FragranceNet | Extra 35 to 40 percent with a code on top of already reduced prices | Sale ran Nov 26 to Dec 2 with a stacking code from the email list | The deepest percentages on designer and older niche; check the concentration and size carefully |
| Amazon | Up to 40 percent off on selected beauty brands | Up to 40 percent off Phlur, Sol de Janeiro, Armani and Mugler, Nov 21 to Dec 2 | Brand-store discounts on a rotating list; watch for third-party sellers on prestige houses |
The short version: yes at some stores, no at some brands
Fragrance is one of the most reliably discounted categories in the whole of Black Friday, because it is a gift category with high list prices and a lot of stock to move before December. Beauty chains and department stores run 20 to 50 percent off on a selection, discounters stack an extra code on already reduced prices, and Amazon runs brand-store promotions on a handful of houses. The word that matters in every one of those sentences is “selected.” No retailer discounts everything, and the brands that hold value in the resale market are exactly the ones that tend to be excluded. If you walk in expecting the whole store to be half off, you will be disappointed. If you walk in knowing which retailer discounts your brand, you will usually save 25 to 40 percent on a bottle you were going to buy anyway.
Sephora: the loyalty tier decides your discount
Sephora’s holiday sale has followed a recognizable pattern for years. The store-wide event is tiered by loyalty status, with the top tier getting the deepest percentage, the middle tier a little less, and the base tier the least. The published history runs roughly like this: 20 percent off selected items in 2020, a broader 25 percent event in 2021, 30 percent for the top tier in 2023, a buy one get one half off structure on fragrance in 2024, and in 2025 a headline of up to 50 percent off selected fragrance with a bonus points code, running from November 24 to December 1. The pattern to plan around is that the fragrance selection changes daily, the most wanted bottles disappear within hours, and the discount you actually get depends on the tier you hold. Sephora is the right stop for mid-tier designer and for the trendy houses it stocks exclusively, and the wrong stop if you expect a deep cut on Chanel.
Ulta: named designer houses, strong on sets
Ulta publishes a specific list each year rather than a store-wide percentage, and the 2025 list is a good guide to what the 2026 list will look like. It took 40 percent off Ralph Lauren, Viktor and Rolf, Marc Jacobs, Burberry and Gucci, 30 percent off newer houses like Snif and Billie Eilish, and half off fragrance sampler sets. That tells you two things. Ulta discounts mainstream designer hard and prestige niche almost never. And its sampler and discovery sets are the best value in the store for someone who does not yet know what they want. If your target is a Marc Jacobs Daisy, a Burberry Her or a Gucci Bloom, Ulta on Black Friday is likely to be the best percentage you will see all year. If your target is Tom Ford or Creed, keep walking.
Macy’s and department stores: where prestige actually moves
Department stores are where the brands that never discount at their own boutiques quietly go on sale. Macy’s ran up to 50 percent off selected fragrances in both 2024 and 2025, with an additional percentage at checkout on certain days, and the selection routinely includes Dior, Armani, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent and sometimes Chanel gift sets. Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom behave similarly with a smaller, more premium selection; in 2025 the discounted Sauvage that publisher roundups pointed to was the Elixir at Bloomingdale’s, not the classic eau de toilette. Two cautions apply. Department store “up to” percentages are led by the least popular items, so expect 20 to 30 percent on the bottles people actually want. And the deepest cuts are often on gift sets, which are a good deal only if you want the travel spray and the shower gel that come with them.
Discounters and Amazon: deepest percentages, most homework
FragranceNet, FragranceX, Perfumania and Jomashop run the biggest headline numbers, because they start from prices that are already below retail and then stack an extra 35 to 40 percent with a code during the sale window; in 2025 FragranceNet’s ran from November 26 to December 2. The catch is that you have to read carefully. The listing may be a different concentration or size than the one you priced at a department store, testers and unboxed bottles are sold at a further discount, and older stock is common. None of that is a problem if you know what you are buying. Amazon sits in between: brand stores for houses like Armani, Mugler, Phlur and Sol de Janeiro ran up to 40 percent off from November 21 to December 2 in 2025, while prestige houses appear mostly through third-party sellers where the discount is real but the provenance is not guaranteed. Buy from the brand store or from Amazon itself, and skip listings whose price is far below every other retailer.
The brands that do not get cheaper
A short list of houses hold their price through Black Friday at their own counters and websites: Chanel, Dior, Creed, Le Labo, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Byredo, Diptyque and most of the Tom Ford Private Blend line. What they offer instead is value in kind: a gift with purchase, a travel spray bundled with a full bottle, bonus loyalty points, or free engraving. Any real percentage off these brands comes from a department store, a discounter or a marketplace seller, and the classic full-size bottles are usually excluded even there. If one of these is your target, the realistic Black Friday win is a gift set at list price that includes a second product you wanted, or a department store cut of 15 to 25 percent, not a half-price bottle. Our house-by-house pages go into where each one actually surfaces on sale.
How to tell a real deal from a dressed-up one
Four checks take under a minute. First, compare like with like: the sale listing must be the same concentration and the same size as the price you have in your head, because a 30 percent discount on a smaller eau de toilette can cost more per milliliter than the full-size eau de parfum at list. Second, ask whether you would buy the set contents separately; if not, price the bottle alone. Third, check the retailer’s regular price on a normal day in early November, since some “was” prices are inflated for the event. Fourth, if the deal is on a marketplace, look at who is selling; a brand store or the retailer itself is fine, an unknown seller with a price far below everyone else is not. Do those four and Black Friday fragrance shopping becomes what it should be: a predictable 25 to 40 percent off a bottle you already chose.
The verdict
Perfume is genuinely cheaper on Black Friday if you match the brand to the retailer. Mainstream designer at Ulta and Sephora, prestige designer at Macy’s and the department stores, deep percentages on older designer at the discounters, brand-store promotions on Amazon. Prestige niche does not get cheaper; it gets a gift with purchase. Decide the bottle and concentration first, then go to the store that discounts it.
Who should skip this
Skip Black Friday shopping if your target is a Chanel, Creed, Le Labo or Kurkdjian full bottle and you will not settle for a gift set or a small department store cut; you will not find a real markdown and you may find fakes. Skip it too if you have not decided which concentration you want, because a discount on the wrong one is money spent, not saved.
How we chose
This page synthesizes the published sale terms of Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s, FragranceNet and Amazon for the 2020 to 2025 Black Friday windows as archived by deal trackers and reported in the 2025 publisher roundups from Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and WhoWhatWear. Percentages are the retailers’ own headline figures. We did not audit individual prices and we do not publish price figures.
Frequently asked
Is perfume cheaper on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?
The fragrance discounts are usually identical across the whole window, which now runs from the Friday before Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. Black Friday has the better selection because the most wanted bottles sell out; Cyber Monday sometimes adds an extra online code.
How much cheaper is perfume on Black Friday?
Typically 20 to 50 percent off a selected range at beauty chains and department stores, an extra 35 to 40 percent with a code at discounters, and up to 40 percent on brand stores at Amazon. The bottles people most want usually sit at the lower end of those ranges.
Does Dior Sauvage go on sale for Black Friday?
Not at Dior. In 2025 the discounted Sauvage in publisher roundups was the Elixir at Bloomingdale’s, while the classic eau de toilette was not marked down. Department stores and discounters are where Sauvage surfaces on sale.
Is it better to buy perfume on Black Friday or wait for after Christmas?
Black Friday has deeper percentages and full selection. After Christmas has clearance on gift sets and slower sellers but the popular bottles are gone. If you want a specific popular fragrance, buy on Black Friday.
Are Black Friday perfumes fake?
From Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s, Nordstrom and established discounters, no. The risk is on marketplaces with unknown third-party sellers offering prestige brands far below every other retailer. Buy from brand stores or the retailer itself.
