Black Friday · Does it go on sale · Buyers waiting for a Chanel discount and wondering whether it exists
Does Chanel perfume ever go on sale?
By Siddharth Kumar · Updated September 2026
Chanel does not discount its fragrances at its own boutiques or website, and it contractually keeps its counters inside department stores out of store-wide promotions, which is why Macy’s and Nordstrom coupons carry an exclusion for Chanel. The only places Chanel fragrance is reliably below list are warehouse clubs such as Costco, which buy through the gray market, and online discounters such as FragranceNet, whose stock is authentic but often older. On Black Friday, Chanel’s own offer is a gift with purchase or a holiday coffret at list price. If you want Bleu de Chanel, Coco Mademoiselle or No. 5 cheaper, plan on a discounter or a warehouse club, not on a sale.

Chanel is the house people most often ask about, and the one with the clearest answer. It does not go on sale. Not on its own site, not at its boutiques, and, unusually, not at the department stores that carry it either, because Chanel writes exclusions into the retailers’ promotions. That does not mean you can never pay less than list for Bleu de Chanel or Coco Mademoiselle. It means the savings come through two specific channels that most shoppers overlook, and that the “Chanel Black Friday deal” you are hoping to find at Macy’s or Nordstrom is not going to appear. This page explains why, where the real savings are, and what Chanel itself offers instead.
| Where | Does Chanel fragrance get discounted? | What you actually get |
|---|---|---|
| Chanel boutiques and chanel.com | Never | Gift wrapping, samples, holiday coffrets at combined list price, occasional gift with purchase |
| Macy’s, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Dillard’s | Effectively never; Chanel is a named exclusion on their coupons and fragrance percentages | Loyalty points and store gift cards on spend thresholds, which do apply |
| Ulta | No percentage off; Chanel is excluded from Ulta’s designer fragrance events | Ulta loyalty points, which can be redeemed later on anything |
| Costco and other warehouse clubs | Yes, consistently below list | Authentic gray-market stock in a limited selection of the bestsellers |
| FragranceNet, FragranceX, Jomashop | Yes, below list year-round with an extra code on Black Friday | Authentic but sometimes older stock; check size and concentration |
| Marketplaces with unknown sellers | Prices far below everyone else | A high risk of counterfeit; Chanel is among the most faked houses |
Why Chanel is different from Dior, Armani and YSL
Most designer fragrance is made under license by a beauty conglomerate and sold wholesale to retailers who can then discount it as they like, which is why Armani and YSL appear in Macy’s percentages and Ulta events. Chanel is different in two ways. It owns and manufactures its own fragrances rather than licensing them, and it controls distribution tightly enough to require that its counters inside department stores be excluded from store-wide promotions. That is the reason the fine print on a Macy’s or Nordstrom beauty coupon reads “excludes Chanel.” The house has held this position for decades and there is no sign of it changing. Dior, which is also owned by a luxury group rather than licensed, is stricter than most but still lets department stores include it in some fragrance percentages. Chanel does not.
What Chanel itself offers on Black Friday
Chanel’s holiday season is built around presentation rather than price. Expect elaborate gift wrapping, generous samples with online orders, and holiday coffrets that pair a full bottle of Bleu de Chanel, Coco Mademoiselle or Chance with a travel spray, a body lotion or a shower gel at the combined list price of the components. Some years there is a gift with purchase above a spend threshold. None of this reduces the price of the fragrance, but the coffrets are a fair deal for a gift because the travel spray is something the recipient would otherwise buy separately. If your reason for wanting Chanel is the brand experience, buy from Chanel and take the extras. If your reason is the juice at a lower price, keep reading.
Department stores: points, not percentages
Because Chanel is excluded from percentage promotions, the department store route to a cheaper Chanel is indirect. Nordstrom, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Saks all run loyalty programs and spend-threshold offers during Black Friday week: bonus points, a store gift card when you spend above a certain amount, or triple points on beauty. These generally do apply to Chanel purchases, because they are rewards on the transaction rather than a discount on the item. The effective saving is usually in the range of 10 to 15 percent of the purchase, returned as store credit rather than cash. It is the most legitimate way to buy Chanel below list from a first-party retailer, and it is the route to take if authenticity and a fresh batch matter more to you than the deepest possible saving.
Costco and warehouse clubs: the open secret
Costco sells Chanel fragrance, along with Dior, Creed and Tom Ford, at prices well below department store list, and it does so year-round rather than as a Black Friday event. The stock arrives through the gray market, which means Costco buys authentic product from distributors rather than from Chanel directly. The fragrance is genuine, the selection is narrow and changes without notice, and it is usually limited to the top sellers in the most common sizes. If you have a membership, checking the fragrance case in November is the single most reliable way to buy Bleu de Chanel or Coco Mademoiselle for meaningfully less than anywhere Chanel controls. Sam’s Club and BJ’s carry a similar rotating selection.
Discounters: authentic, older, cheaper
FragranceNet, FragranceX, Perfumania and Jomashop all carry Chanel below list all year and add an extra 35 to 40 percent code during their Black Friday windows, which in 2025 ran roughly from the day before Thanksgiving through the Tuesday after Cyber Monday. The stock is authentic and comes from the same gray-market channels as the warehouse clubs, but it is more likely to be a year or two old, and the listing may be a different size or concentration than the one you priced elsewhere. For a fragrance you already know and want more of, this is the best percentage you will find. For a first bottle where you want the current formulation and a fresh batch, a department store with a points offer is the safer buy.
The fakes problem, and one rule that avoids it
Chanel is one of the most counterfeited fragrance houses in the world, and the fakes are good enough that box and bottle alone will not tell you. The rule that protects you is about the seller, not the product. Chanel itself, department stores, Ulta, warehouse clubs and long-established discounters are all safe. On a marketplace, buy only from the platform itself or from a seller with a verifiable business name and a long history in fragrance. A Chanel bottle priced far below every other retailer, from a seller you have never heard of, is not a Black Friday deal. It is the reason the real ones look expensive.
The verdict
Chanel fragrance does not go on sale in any ordinary sense. The realistic ways to pay less are a department store points or gift card offer during Black Friday week, a warehouse club if you have a membership, or an established discounter if you are happy with older stock. Chanel’s own Black Friday is a coffret at list price, which is a good gift and not a discount.
Who should skip this
Skip waiting for a Chanel sale entirely; it is not coming. Skip discounters if you want the current formulation and a fresh batch, and skip any marketplace listing that undercuts every other retailer.
How we chose
Based on Chanel’s published distribution and pricing practices, the exclusion language in department store and Ulta promotional terms, warehouse club fragrance assortments as reported by deal trackers, and the 2025 Black Friday sale windows of the major online discounters. We do not publish price figures and have not audited individual listings.
Frequently asked
Does Chanel do Black Friday?
Not with discounts. Chanel offers holiday coffrets at combined list price, gift wrapping and samples, and sometimes a gift with purchase. It does not reduce fragrance prices on Black Friday or at any other time.
Why is Chanel excluded from Macy’s coupons?
Chanel owns and distributes its own fragrance and requires department stores to exclude its counters from store-wide promotions. The exclusion is written into the coupon terms.
Is Chanel perfume cheaper at Costco?
Yes, consistently, because Costco buys authentic stock through the gray market. The selection is limited to the bestsellers and changes without notice.
Is Chanel perfume on FragranceNet real?
Yes. Established discounters sell authentic gray-market stock below list. It may be older than what a department store sells, so check the batch if freshness matters to you.
Does Bleu de Chanel ever go on sale?
Not at Chanel or in department store percentages. It is below list at warehouse clubs and online discounters, and department store points offers during Black Friday week effectively return 10 to 15 percent as store credit.
