Black Friday · Answers · Shoppers deciding which day of the Thanksgiving window to buy fragrance
Black Friday or Cyber Monday: when should you buy perfume?
By Siddharth Kumar · Updated September 2026
For fragrance, Black Friday and Cyber Monday almost always carry the same percentage off, because retailers now run one continuous sale from the week before Thanksgiving through the Monday after. Black Friday is better if you want a specific popular bottle, since the discounted selection is finite and the most wanted fragrances sell out over the weekend. Cyber Monday is better if you are flexible on brand, want an online-only code, or are buying gift sets, which retailers push hardest at the end of the window. Buying on the first day the sale opens beats both.

The Black Friday versus Cyber Monday question made sense when one was a store event and the other was an online one. For fragrance in 2026 it is mostly the wrong question, because the sale is a single twelve-day window and the discount rarely changes inside it. What does change is what is left on the shelf, which codes are live, and how the retailer is trying to clear stock as the window closes. This page explains how the two days differ for perfume specifically, when each is the smarter buy, and why the real answer is usually “the day the sale opens.”
| Situation | Better day | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want one specific popular bottle | Sale opening day, then Black Friday | Discounted fragrance is a finite list and the popular bottles sell out over the weekend |
| You are flexible on brand and buying a gift | Cyber Monday | Retailers push gift sets and slower sellers hardest at the end, sometimes with an extra online code |
| You want prestige designer such as Dior or Armani | Black Friday weekend at a department store | Department store fragrance cuts are deepest on the weekend and selection thins by Monday |
| You want the biggest percentage on older designer | Either, from a discounter | FragranceNet and similar run one code across the whole window |
| You are shopping for several people at once | Cyber Monday | Free shipping thresholds and site-wide codes favor multi-item orders |
| You missed both | The week after Cyber Monday | Clearance on sets begins, but popular bottles are gone |
Why the discount is usually the same
Retailers learned years ago that splitting the event into a Friday sale and a Monday sale just trained shoppers to wait. So the beauty chains, department stores and discounters now announce one sale with one set of terms that opens before Thanksgiving and closes on Cyber Monday or the day after. In 2025 Sephora ran November 24 to December 1, FragranceNet November 26 to December 2 and Amazon’s beauty event November 21 to December 2, and in each case the headline percentage on fragrance was the same on Friday as on Monday. The publisher roundups that went live on Black Friday morning simply changed their titles to Cyber Monday over the weekend without changing the deals. If a retailer tells you a deal is Black Friday only, it usually means the stock is expected to run out, not that the percentage will rise on Monday.
Black Friday: selection is the advantage
The reason to buy on Black Friday, or better still on the day the sale opens, is stock. Fragrance discounts apply to a named list of bottles, and that list has a small number of fragrances everybody wants: the current bestsellers from Dior, Chanel, Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace and the trendy houses. Those go first, often within hours of the sale opening, and retailers do not restock them at the sale price. By Sunday the discounted fragrance page at a beauty chain is noticeably thinner and by Monday it is the long tail. If your target is a popular bottle in a popular concentration, the best moment is the first hour the sale is live and the second best is Black Friday morning. Waiting for Monday in the hope of a better percentage is how people end up with a “notify me when back in stock” email.
Cyber Monday: codes, sets and clearing stock
Cyber Monday earns its place for a different kind of shopper. Retailers know it is the last day most people will spend at scale before December, so they use it to move what has not sold: gift sets, discovery kits, slower designer lines and the previous year’s flankers. That often comes with an online-only code stacked on top of the sale percentage, and with site-wide free shipping thresholds that reward larger orders. For a gift buyer who is flexible on brand and wants a boxed set, Monday can genuinely be the better day, with a broader set selection and a slightly better effective discount. For someone building a wishlist of several fragrances for several people, the multi-item shipping and code structure favors Monday too. It is the day for browsing, not for hunting one bottle.
What about the days in between?
Saturday and Sunday are underrated. The retailers are still running the full sale, the Friday rush has passed, and the department stores in particular tend to add or extend a checkout percentage over the weekend to keep momentum. Small Business Saturday, which falls on November 28 in 2026, is also when independent perfume shops and decant sellers run their own promotions, which is the only place you will see meaningful percentages on niche houses. If you missed the opening and your target is still in stock on Saturday, buy it; the risk of it disappearing before Monday is higher than the chance of an extra few percent.
The real answer: the day the sale opens
Set aside the two famous days and the pattern is simple. Discounted fragrance is a fixed list with fixed percentages that shrinks over time. The best moment to buy a specific bottle is therefore the earliest moment the sale is live, which in 2025 was as early as November 21 at Amazon and November 24 at Sephora. Loyalty tiers and email lists get you in a day earlier still. Cyber Monday is the fallback for gifts and sets, and the week after is clearance. If you take one thing from this page, make it this: decide the bottle and the concentration in early November, hold the accounts, and buy when the doors open.
The verdict
For a specific fragrance, Black Friday beats Cyber Monday because of selection, and the sale’s opening day beats Black Friday for the same reason. For flexible gift shopping and boxed sets, Cyber Monday is slightly better thanks to end-of-window codes and free shipping. The percentage itself is almost never the deciding factor.
Who should skip this
Skip the whole debate if your target is a prestige niche house; neither day discounts it. Skip Cyber Monday if you want a current bestseller in a popular concentration, because it is likely gone by then.
How we chose
Based on the published 2025 sale windows and terms of Sephora, FragranceNet, Amazon, Macy’s and Ulta as archived by deal trackers, and on the publish and update history of the 2025 publisher roundups, which changed their titles from Black Friday to Cyber Monday without changing the listed deals. We do not publish price figures.
Frequently asked
Is perfume cheaper on Cyber Monday than Black Friday?
Usually not. Retailers run one continuous sale with the same fragrance percentages across the window. Cyber Monday sometimes adds an online-only code, but the popular bottles are often sold out by then.
Do perfume deals sell out on Black Friday?
The popular bottles do. Discounted fragrance is a named list, and current bestsellers from Dior, Chanel, Armani, YSL and Versace typically sell out over the weekend and are not restocked at the sale price.
Are gift sets better on Cyber Monday?
Often, yes. Retailers push boxed sets and discovery kits hardest at the end of the window, sometimes with an additional code, so set selection and effective discount can be slightly better on Monday.
When is Cyber Monday 2026?
Monday, November 30, 2026, three days after Black Friday on November 27.
Should I wait for Cyber Monday if the perfume I want is already on sale?
No. If the bottle and concentration you want are on sale and in stock, buy it. The percentage is unlikely to improve and the stock is likely to disappear.
