Modern perfumery uses synthetic recreations (you will see the name Ambroxan on ingredient nerd lists), and that molecule is quietly everywhere: it is the radiant, salty-skin hum that makes Aventus feel expensive after the pineapple fades, the glow underneath Baccarat Rouge 540, the projection engine inside Invictus and Club de Nuit Intense Man. Ambergris notes read as "expensive skin", diffusive, slightly sweet, faintly marine. If a fragrance seems to project from you rather than sit on you, this note is usually the machinery doing it.
