Givenchy reimagined its 1974 classic Gentleman in 2017, keeping the iconic name but building an entirely modern composition around iris and leather. It was created by perfumers Nathalie Lorson and Olivier Cresp. The fragrance opens with pear and cardamom over a powdery iris and lavender heart, drying down to patchouli, leather and a dark vanilla that gives it a refined, dapper character. It anchors a successful modern flanker line that includes Gentleman Eau de Parfum Boisee, Gentleman Reserve Privee and Gentleman Society. The fragrance has been associated with brand ambassadors and a polished, contemporary-gentleman image. It is widely regarded as one of the better iris-leather options in the designer space and a more sophisticated alternative to sweeter mainstream releases.
A 2017 reinvention of the classic Gentleman that pairs a powdery iris heart with pear, cardamom, leather and patchouli for a polished, slightly retro-modern signature. Elegant and refined rather than loud - it reads as quietly expensive.
