The story

Montblanc Explorer launched in 2019 and was developed by perfumers Olivier Pescheux, Antoine Maisondieu and Jordi Fernandez. The composition centers on bergamot, vetiver, leather, patchouli and Givaudan's Akigalawood, a patchouli-derived molecule that gives it a peppery-woody depth. It earned an immediate reputation as a strong-performing, affordable alternative in the woody-aromatic space frequently compared to Creed Aventus, and became a major commercial success for Montblanc. Its strength, versatility and price made it one of the most recommended value designer fragrances of its era. It spawned several flankers including Explorer Ultra Blue and Explorer Platinum.

Our take

A widely-loved budget take on the smoky-woody Aventus genre, built on bergamot, vetiver, leather and the rich Akigalawood molecule. Strong performance and easy versatility made it one of the best value-for-money designer releases of recent years.
