The story

Phantom Parfum arrived in 2023, two years after the original Phantom EDT made headlines in equal parts for its lavender-vanilla-apple fragrance and its genuinely eccentric gimmick: an NFC chip embedded in the robot-head bottle cap that linked wearers to a digital world when tapped with a smartphone. The 2023 Parfum, created by Juliette Karagueuzoglou, Dominique Ropion, and Anne Flipo, dispensed with the purely digital marketing angle and allowed the perfumers to deepen and refine the formula. The lavender-vanilla core of the EDT is preserved but made more complex: cardamom, rhubarb, and bergamot sharpen the opening, while cedarwood, patchouli, and geranium give the heart more structure, and Haitian vetiver grounds the vanilla-tolu balsam base with an earthy, smoky counterweight. The result is described as 'more mysterious and sexy' than its predecessor. The refillable matte-black robot bottle became an icon in its own right — Phantom launched with industry estimates of upward of 160 million euros in first-year retail sales for the EDT, and the Parfum capitalised on that established audience seeking more depth.

Our take

A deeper, more mature Phantom — rhubarb and bergamot sharpen the lavender-vanilla DNA before a vetiver-balsamic dry-down.
