The story

Glossier You launched in 2017 as the cult beauty brand's first fragrance, created by perfumer Frank Voelkl of Firmenich. It was conceived around a 'skin scent' philosophy, using ambrette and iris over a warm musky-ambery base (built on ambrox) so the perfume reacts to and amplifies the wearer's own skin. The marketing pitch of smelling like 'you' rather than a recognizable designer accord struck a chord and made it a sleeper hit. It became a long-running bestseller and a reference point for the clean, musky, personal-scent category that exploded in the early 2020s. Voelkl is also known for Le Labo Santal 33, which informs the cozy-musk DNA here.

Our take

A deliberately personal, low-key musk built around ambrette and iris that morphs subtly to your own skin chemistry. It is the textbook 'smells like you but better' scent, intimate and addictive up close rather than projection-heavy.
